| Harrisons were happy to take up the challenge when
Gill Greaves, Art and Design Officer for York Hospital, requested
product suggestions for the modernisation of the hospital chapel.
The brief of the project was to refresh the design of the chapel, moving away from the tired and traditional feel of the room and creating a more welcoming and relaxing atmosphere for quiet reflection and spiritual activities. The design challenge was to provide two areas one for Christian worship as well as a space for use by people of all faiths.
Improvements included new chapel furniture and seating, as well
as more subtle ambient elements such as the LED colour wash lighting.
Harrisons were approached for product recommendations to achieve
the creative vision of frosted stained glass windows, making the
room more private, whilst still allowing plenty of light in.
Harrisons were quick to respond, supplying samples of the window
artwork printed on a number of alternative etched and frosted window
vinyls, allowing the hospital's creative team to visualise the finished
effect and select a suitable product.
The graphic design was created by Rebecca Stoner (www.rebeccastoner.co.uk),
a specialist surface pattern designer and printed by Harrisons onto
etched window vinyl using UV-stable solvent inks.
"We are extremely pleased with the final result, and the
windows really complement the space, creating a gentle and colourful
light within the room, and a bright decorative effect on the outside
of the building. We found the Harrisons team attentive to our needs
and I look forward to working with them on future projects."
