Proposed Health Bill - 2006
Following the 2006 Scottish legal ban on smoking in the workplace,
a Health Bill has been drafted to set out the Government's proposals
to prohibit smoking in most indoor workplaces and public places
in England.
The law in Scotland applies to most indoor workplaces and public
places, with limited exceptions, and the English ban will probably
follow along similar lines.
In February 2006, MPs voted against proposed exemptions for private
membership clubs and pubs that do not serve food. The Bill is expected
to be passed by the House of Lords and to be enacted by mid 2006.
It is due to enter into force in mid 2007.
We will advise our customers of the legislation as it becomes law,
so you can take the appropriate action and make sure you have the
correct signage in place.
