McCain are the UK’s number one frozen potato manufacturer, as well as the largest frozen potato manufacturer in the world. They recently revamped their 34,000 square foot head office in Eastfield, Scarborough. Harrisons were honoured to work on the project for the brand, alongside HC Design, who Harrisons have had a longstanding partnership with.

Harrisons worked closely with HC Design during the process. McCain wanted to create “a cutting-edge facility designed to attract and retain the best new talent”. The redesign responded to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic had on the workplace. The company wanted to support a new hybrid model of both home and office working with their new redesign.

The new office implements latest technologies which allow employees to connect to the office from their home. It also features different spaces and designs in order to maximise social distancing, ensuring that all employees are able to work safely and securely from the office. The health and safety of its employees was at the heart of the redesign.

The design focused highly on sustainability, with sustainable practices incorporated throughout including energy efficient lighting, recycled furniture and carbon neutral flooring products.

The site was first opened in 1968 and since then it has grown to become one of the largest private employers within the area, with over 700 employees working at the headquarters. The McCain office is also heavily involved in partnerships with multiple suppliers and organisations within the community. Significant investment into the production facility on site was made in order to meet increased demand from customers, quickly followed by the redesign of the office space. McCain wanted to strengthen their commitment to the Scarborough area by encouraging a hybrid style of working for their office employees, as well as attracting and maintaining talented employees around the area.

The new redesign includes a state-of-the-art kitchen area which will be used to showcase McCain products to new and existing retail and hospitality customers.

Harrisons were responsibly for creating and installing multiple types of signage and graphics within the space.

We printed and installed 65 square metres of high impact wall graphics featuring McCain product images, creating a cohesive space throughout the office and ensuring branding was kept of upmost importance. Our state-of-the-art Epson Sure Colour S80600 printer has outstanding photographic print quality, giving us the ability to create the highest quality large format digital prints. We also printed a 3D fork, adding some brightness to what would otherwise be a duller area of the office whilst reinforcing the brands image. Wall graphics and floor graphics are the perfect choice when looking to bring a blank space to life, perfectly executed during this project.

Harrisons created and installed a drywipe ideas board in the shape of a lightbulb. The bold wall graphics and boards completely transform the office space. This offers employees a space for collaborative working, encouraging communication between colleagues. When working from the office, the ideas board helps to ensure that everyone has access to information and can connect with other team members in real-time.

External signage was manufactured and fitted by the Harrisons Team. The McCain logo stands out on the front of the building with their new, sleek, 3D signage. 3D signs are by far the most popular choice of sign when it comes to bespoke business signage, enabling the client to create intricate detailing and imposing designs to set their business apart from the rest. The sign is 2m wide x 1m high in size and made from 3mm folded aluminium composite with a 20mm thick push through opal acrylic for the logo and back lit with LEDs.

30mm thick face lit LED acrylic lettering was manufactured and installed throughout the offices. Illuminated signage offers a high impact way of grabbing attention. Acrylic letters were fitted with LED lighting which shines directly through the signage material, giving a bold pop to the colours and content of the signs.

The finished result is a modern, functional office space for McCain which sticks exactly to the brief. The revamped space offers solutions to hybrid working, as well as creating areas which encourage teamwork and community. The signage installed throughout brings the project together, reinforcing brand messages and offering smart solutions in order to ensure maximum diligence levels from employees, who will now be able to choose to work from home or work in the office safely and collaboratively.
