Jack Hunter 1924 – 2021

10th June 2021

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Jack Hunter at the age of 96.

Jack was the second generation to work in the family business after leaving school to work at Harrisons in 1938 from the age of 14 as an apprentice ticker writer under his father, Alfred Hunter. At 16 he trained as a wireless radio operator before joining the Merchant Navy during World War 2.

After the War he started back at Harrisons and was pivotal in driving the business forward to where it is today. He was at the forefront of new technologies and was one of the first to use acrylics in the sign industry converting an old Goblin vacuum cleaner alongside a handmade Cutawl to cut the sign letters and shapes! Jack retired as Managing Director in 1982 and took on the role of Chairman.

Jack will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew him.
